I just finished with my first weekend of Pilates instructor training classes (for mat only). I am a little bit overwhelmed, but at the same time, I am extremely excited. I am a bit overwhelmed because I have a lot of anatomy review to do (it’s been about 10 years since I took that class!) and I don’t have a lot of Pilates experience (yet!). But I am excited because I think this is an amazing opportunity for me to become a better dancer and dance teacher and because I believe that Stott Pilates is such an amazing form of excercise. With the little that I have learned so far, I see that some of the concepts that I already to teach to my dance students are a part of the Stott Pilates methods. (Yay!)
Part of my path to becoming a certified instructor is to do a minimum of 15 hours of practice teaching. That is where you all come in. After I finish with the training classes, I will need some guinea pigs to be my Pilates students. I will book space at a studio (most likely Studio Bizz) so I can give private 1-hour lessons. I probably won’t stop at the required minimum 15 hours, as I want to become as comfortable as possible before taking my exam. Once I get that organized, I will let you all know the details and start scheduling your time slots.
I hope to immediately start incorporating what I’m learning from Pilates into my dance classes. I think we will all benefit! Just don’t be afraid if I start throwing in some anatomy terminology!
Stay tuned for more news….
