Hi, Cadancers! It has been a while, but life has been happily busy watching recitals and rehearsing for our own September show. It’s already June and there are only 3 weeks left of the session before we reconvene for the 7-week summer session on July 17. Before the summer session, I’m squeezing in more Pilates training courses (to have more butt-kicking exercises in my arsenal!), taking in some sweet music at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and making a quick trip to my native California. I hope I’ll survive…
On Saturday, May 12, some KlaXsonites/Cadancers and I set out for Cornwall, Ontario to watch The Powell School of Dance‘s annual recital. I was especially excited, not only because three Cadancers and fellow tappers are teachers for and co-owners of the school (along with their parents), but also because I choreographed the teachers’ number, Imagine. It was beautiful and I was so proud of Lindsay, Hilary, and Ainsley for doing a wonderful job performing. I was also very pleased to see how their school has grown and evolved throughout the years. I look forward to trekking out to Cornwall every May!
Then on Sunday, May 27, I had the pleasure of seeing former Cadancer Pepe Solis perform with his Mexican folkloric dance group Grupo Folklorico Nadxieli in their show Mexico Indigena. It was a lovely production, including numbers from some younger dancers (I’m guessing as young as four or five years old?) as well as the adults. The numbers were interspersed with video clips, images, and descriptions of the indigenous people in Mexico from where these dances came. The costumes were beautiful and the finale was spectacular. I’ve included some of my favorite images below.
You can see more of the photos I took (with my phone’s camera, so forgive the grainy quality) on Facebook.
In other show news, our show poster is now ready and tickets are on sale!!! You don’t want to miss out on this show at Gesù in Montreal on September 7 & 8, so get your tickets now.
I hope to see you in a jazz, GROOVE, or Pilates class soon!
