Master Class, Summer Session & More…

Much has been happening, Cadancers, and I’ve barely had time to breathe!  I am currently (trying to) study for my exam to become a fully-certified Stott Pilates® Instructor and the test date is quickly approaching.  I have a lot of news of events past and events to come, so let’s get to it!

We’re wrapping up the spring session (only 2 weeks left) and I can’t believe it is already June!  Where has the time gone?  Aside from studying, I have been keeping busy with teaching Pilates at a few studios in Montreal, teaching a class at Westmount Broadway Academy, and, of course, teaching my Cadance classes.

On April 28, I had the privilege and pleasure of teaching a free Pilates mat class at the Lululemon on Greene Ave. on behalf of Dita Pilates Studio.  It was so much fun and you should keep your eye on their calendar of events; they’re always having yoga classes, bootcamp classes, and more.  Plus, the staff there are fabulous and you might pick up a cute new tank top or even a new workout wardrobe while you’re there! ;-)

We had the opportunity a few weeks ago to perform at a big  anniversary bash where I premiered a fun jazz number to Judy Garland’s Get Happy.  We also performed Don’t Stop Me Now from our last Queen & Supertramp show.  Video coming soon….

MASTER CLASS

What I’m really, really, super excited about is the upcoming master class.  On Friday, June 21, Tracy Maxfield, a wonderful instructor will be teaching us how to maintain healthy knees!  This class is ideal for intermediate to advanced movers, as it will incorporate anatomy/physiology and a movement series.  Registration is only $50 for this incredible 2 hours at the beautiful Studio Praxis (plenty of free parking and close to Namur metro).  Contact me ASAP to reserve your spot (payment by cash or check only).  You may also contact Studio Praxis to pay by credit card – just be sure to tell them Rachel at Cadance sent you.  And spread the word!  You can download the flyer here.

UPCOMING RECITALS AND OTHER EVENTS

I have been teaching two young girls at Westmount Broadway Academy for the past year and am very proud that they will be performing three numbers in our concert on Sunday, June 16th at Dawson College – more specifically, they will be performing in the 11:45 am show.  There will be second show with different performances at 2:30.  Maybe you could even treat your dad to the show for Father’s Day!

That same weekend is the Powell School of Dance recital in Cornwall, Ontario.  I have been going to the PSOD recitals now for several years (even choreographing for the teachers’ number) and am more impressed with them every year.  This very dedicated dance family of five (including three Cadancers) have really grown their school into something wonderful for the community of Cornwall and I can’t wait to see how they will dazzle the audience this year.  Lots of love to the Powell School of Dance from Cadance! ♥

Another Powell-related event is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation/Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Dynamic Duo of twins Hilary and Ainsley Powell have been living with diabetes most of their lives.  I am amazed how they can balance – with aplomb – family life, social life, work, school, and dance with managing this disease.   They are close to their goal of raising $1000 for the Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes this June 9th.  Please consider donating to the cause – every little bit helps to go to research for a cure!

Well, Cadancers, I think I’ve covered everything.  I hope to see you soon in a Cadance class, at the Healthy Knees Master Class, or at a recital.  Please contact me with any questions and I wish you a great summer!
